UTC Sheffield City Centre students are celebrating a strong set of technical and A Level results after receiving their academic and technical results today.

At our Ofsted graded ‘good’ technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds, students complete technical qualifications in engineering and advanced manufacturing or creative and digital media and A Levels.

The technical qualifications are equivalent to between one and three A Levels.

Students are progressing to a range of high quality destinations including top universities such as Sheffield Hallam University, University of Sheffield, University of Exeter and University of Bristol and apprenticeships with leading employers such as Amazon, Castings Technology International Limited, Fairfield Control Systems, Fernite, Preformed Windings and Ondrives.

This year’s results have seen students achieve:

  • The technical qualification pass rate is 100% for creative and digital media, and 100% for engineering.
  • 88% of students achieved a Distinction* to Merit grade in creative and digital media and 78% did so in engineering.
  • This year’s A Level pass rate is 96.8%
  • At the UTC, 75% of students completed A Levels alongside their technical qualifications.
  • The pass rate for A Level grades from A* to B is 30% and A* to C is 56%.

Alex Reynolds, Principal of UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “It’s wonderful to see our students’ hard work pay off as they achieve both technical and academic success. We are committed to technical excellence, which is central to everything we do. Alongside earning their technical and academic qualifications, our curriculum provides students with industry-specific and problem-solving skills that are highly valued by employers.”

UTCs are government funded technical schools that provide academic and technical qualifications to match the skills required of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment. The UTC is backed by top employers who have shaped the curriculum and provide industry projects, work experience and work placements.

Employers supporting the UTC include McLaren, Inspec Solutions, Lavender International, PES Performance, Rolls-Royce, Screen Yorkshire, Bravand, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.
