Lucas is off to Rolls-Royce to undertake a Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship after a strong set of results.

At UTC Lucas studied A Levels in Maths, Chemistry and Physics achieving A B B and a technical in Engineering achieving Distinction*. Upon receiving his results, he said: “I’m extremely happy and grateful to have the opportunity to work with such a renowned, international company – Rolls Royce. My results, along with my hard work and dedication to my studies, have enabled me to have this fantastic opportunity.”

It was an easy decision coming to join the UTC for Lucas, he knew he wanted to concentrate on engineering and his old school didn’t offer it until Year 10: “UTC offered the opportunity to start engineering in Year 9. My old school wasn’t as specialised like it is here, the equipment we have here is better than any other school nearby. Since being here I’ve found it to one of the most inclusive schools, all the staff and students are nice and friendly.”

Talking about some of the highlights of his time at UTC, he said: “I think the most notable thing I’ve done at UTC is compete in the WorldSkills UK automation competition. It’s a competition where you compete against mostly universities where you work to simulate industrial processes. It involved problem solving with pneumatics and electronics, as well as programming. We did both an online qualifier and competed in person”.

Continuing: “I’m really looking forward to attending the national finals in November!”
